Elizabeth Cush on Parts Work

Do you have a professional side at work and a personal side that you only show to family and friends? If so, you’re not alone. Woman Worriers host Elizabeth Cush talks about her personal journey toward recognizing all the different parts of her self and having them live in harmony.

I kind of armored myself in my professional appearance as well as my name.

Show Notes:

We all have different parts of ourselves—professional parts and private parts, perhaps outgoing parts or shy parts, parts that might respond well in a crisis, parts that make sure we get our work done, and even parts that call us out when we make a mistake. But we’re not always in touch with all those parts and we sometimes hide some of those parts from some people. In this episode of the Woman Worriers podcast, host Elizabeth Cush, LCPC, a licensed professional therapist and founder of Progression Counseling in Annapolis, Md., talks about how she has gotten to know the various parts of herself and brought them together through therapy, mindfulness and meditation. As a result, she can show up more fully in her life, trust herself and tap into her intuition, and live with less anxiety and more comfort and compassion.

Listen and learn:

  • What it feels like when we keep parts of ourselves compartmentalized and how it adds to our anxiety

  • Why we sometimes have different identities for different situations and how those identities can hold us back from showing up as our authentic selves

  • About the different parts we have that show up in different situations

  • How you can learn to tune in to your different parts so they can tell you what you need to know

  • What Internal Family Systems work can do

  • How it feels when you start showing up as your authentic self

  • The benefits you can gain from journaling
